General Discussion / Wheel nuts and studs
Last post by Surveyme - Today at 03:27 PM
Hello
As a newbie to this, I've just bought a series 2a who's build date always 4/12/61 (88"wb).
I have a number of jobs to do to get it running on the road but it starts and has had a galvanised chassis already.
Of concern to me firstly though is one of the wheel studs is too short and I have two different types of nuts (domed both sides on three wheels and flat one side and domed on the other on one wheel.  I don't know which is original?
Can any help me understand what's right?
Thanks

Attaching an image to your forum post couldn't be easier.

To reply or start a new post you will see this screen ....

You then "drag" your image into the box. The image can be anywhere on your computer/desktop.
Large camera images are not ideal, but a thumbnail the image will be displayed in your forum post.
On clicking on the image it will enlarge to the full size.

That's a great pic, and yes a 109 as the bulkhead is flat, not angled.

Colours were dark green and grey, with signwriting in cream I think.

General Discussion / Re: 2A gearbox
Last post by diffwhine - Today at 12:39 PM
Is the gearbox original to the vehicle? Any chance of a number? There are a number of gearbox refurbishment companies out there. Quality parts are increasingly becoming an issue though, so watch out...

I have rebuilt quite a few boxes for S2C members as I do it as a bit of a hobby. Somewhat of a busman's holiday given when I'm supposed to do for a living, but if you want one rebuilt, I can do one for you. I've got two here stripped and cleaned and waiting for rebuild and two waiting to be rebuilt. All are about the same age as your vehicle.
Drop me a pm if you are interested and want to discuss, but it would be easy to build one and bung it on a pallet and send up to you. I don't need the old one back as I'm drowning under gearboxes at the moment!

Anybody who ever ran a Volvo T5 would know a story or two about abysmal tyre wear. I got 2000 miles out of one front set. At that attrition rate, the car had to go. Loved it though - high performance tank - that's all it was.

A friend of mine bought a 2007 Defender Hi-Cap pickup, which came with G90's. He sold it 10 years and 80,000 miles later with the original tyres. Plenty of tread left too.

3000 miles from a set of tyres is pretty poor!

Drums needed wire brushing, so in removal, discovered new brake cylinders, shoes!
All drain holes plugged, so wirebrushed the lot and painted them. Rack rod and ends v rusty, wirebrushed and found the track rod ends just need a cleanup. No play.
