Ro,
Just to clarify, I do not believe that Rob intended that comment to be interpreted that way. Of course green lanes and social events form the fabric of the club as do pub meets, forums, workshop repairs and preservation of the vehicles. For some the preservation and the technical side is more important than the driving and working of our vehicles. Others prefer to run them as workhorses and use them actively on lanes and events. There is no hard and fast rule and the club is open and welcome to all schools of thought on this.

Rob - thank you for all your help earlier this year. We are all grateful for your hard work during a pretty tumultuous time. Now we move on - all that must be put behind us to enable this great club to flourish.

In time George may appear here. Let's hope so.

Curious, as Ex-Chairman you take a dim view on "green laning & pub meets". Granted these are not everything a classic Land Rover owner will take part in. But surely anything that feeds social engagement with like minded people is a good thing, else no one would talk to each other. You can't have a community of strangers.

I imagine fishing and boating will not involve bloody knuckles. That wil be a relief.  :cheers-man

Hi Ro

It's not a dim view but my personal take on the situation as it unfolded when I was Chair, anything that brings like minded people together is always good but unfortunately there are some individuals who don't see it that way. There are many areas the club covers, from laning to classic car shows, but they are individual sections which when brought together under the umbrella of the club makes this a great club. So that is why members need to get behind the Board and support them, you have an AGM coming up vote for what is right.

Trust this makes sense.

Green lanes are disappearing nationwide and we should use them. Nothing wrong with a few gently green lanes followed by a lunchtime snack at a nearby pub. It's a good social gathering.

Sorry to hear you had to sell but someone got themselves a beautiful "turn key" vehicle there.

I've just had confirmation that George has gone into a massive car collection and will be sitting in a heated garage for the rest of his life and just polished (I did meet the chap at the show), plus the new owner is retaining his name. I can't say much more than that but for me it makes the whole episode so worth while and proud that some thinks he's that good. An unexpected bucket list item to be ticked off.

Rob, getting thinned skin myself and totally understand your decision. Have fun in your future!

That is a beautiful resto mod, sir! :gold-cup  I've not seen that tailgate cover before, where does it hail from?

Thank you my friend, much appreciated.

The tailgate cover is from Exmoor, here's a link to it - https://www.exmoortrim.co.uk/tailgate-mat-protector.html

George was a credit to you. Thank you  for your stewardship at the begining of the year and all the best for your future.
The old days are the old days only because there're gone and won't be back.

Sad to see you go Rob, but tempered with being very pleased to see George achieve the price he did at auction. A testament to your hard work and attention to detail.

Best of luck for the future, whatever it may hold.

PS, in thirty years of Club membership I've not ever done a day's green laning or a pub meet. For me, Land-Rover ownership is a solitary affair, carried out in the privacy of my own workshop. Interaction here is pretty much all I can tolerate.  ;)

I was going to say 'you must be fun at parties', but realised that's an unlikely occurrence. :cool

Yes. Been a long time since I have attended a "party". The very thought brings me out in a sweat.

I'm too autistic for socialising with strangers. If I'm honest, I struggle with socialising with people who aren't strangers.
