See if anybody can top that!

I recently made a new garage wall clock.

When I first started my engineering career as an injection moulding toolmaker one of the first bits of kit I bought was a dial test indicator. We used them as comparators sitting on a stand on a granite surface plate and a pile of slip gauges to measure the size of components as we were surface grinding or spark-eroding them. We used to work to tolerances of less than one micron at times so we had DTI's with 2 micron graduations. The best DTI's on the market at the time were made by a Swiss company, TESA.

We all called them clocks....

So fast forward nearly 30 years, the DTI is still working well in my home workshop and I thought, I'd like one of those that tells the time.

I nip on ebay, buy a generic wall clock with a black rim and then start modelling the rest in the CAD system. The DTI face is 38mm diameter so 8 times that is 304mm which is pretty close to the 300mm clock I bought. Once drawn up in CAD, converted to .stl file, a roll of silver plastic, and a fair few hours on the printer and we have a 3D printed DTI body.
The clock face was also drawn in CAD, printed on A3 paper, cut out, laminated and attached inside the clock face.

Now I have a proper clock that tells the time.

Craig.

I'd be surprised if any will quote, if they do it'll be at prices which make it clear they don't want the business. I've seen £23000 for my 18YO. He pays £4500 on his car. This is  low because unlike most his age, he has one year NCB, or did... he's just stuffed it. And come on... we all did.

Suddenly £4500 - from the standpoint of the insurer - is not near enough.

Thank you, I'll give Admiral a go. Adrian Flux refused to quote for an 18 year old.

Admiral quoted me ( 23, learners) for £360, Adrian Flux for £480.
Most classic car insurance companies won't insure anyone under 24, I called about six or seven and the only one who would even give me a number was AF.

Trying to get a nearly 19 year old son insurance for a series 2, full clean licence, but policy gone from £600 to £2-4k for second year insurance. Any tips for insurance companies to try? It would be a shame if the youngsters get priced out...

Door tops off today as one of the bolts had broke. Took her for the first drive this spring, but probably one of the last with this engine. Just need to get the guts to change a 2.25 diesel 3 bearing that is knackered for a 5 bearing 2.25 diesel...... is it easy? as going up the mountain in 1st/2nd due to lack of puff aint the quietest experience
