My insurance renewal has gone up with a bit of a bump this year and so as the broker has recommended I am shopping around.

I have been at it all morning and I have lost the will to live

How many vehicles do you have Peter?

I realised a few years ago that my eclectic fleet was beginning to get a bit expensive with everything on seperate policies that ran at different times. I have a single policy now that covers everything from a modern motorcycle and car, through the Land-Rover, several older bikes and a lorry; for about half the cost of insuring them separately. Footman James are my broker.

Second vote for FJ. I've got the S2 and two old Harley's ('42 and '54) on their flex policy. You can add a single 'non-classic' as well.  No roblem with agreed values, salvage retention etc.

Peter was this a renewal for a "classic" LR or an more modern one?

I ask because whilst my recent renewal for a Defender - classed as a classic - increased by about 10 percent, the premium on my 22 year old Freelander1 went up nearly 300 percent! From £129 to £365!!

The alternative Insurers I often go to, do not want to insure a non-classic vehicle.
So like you, I am losing the will to live!

So could somebody, please drop me a name of an Insurer or Broker who might be a better for insuring a non-classic LR. :nurse

Hi

My renewal for the 109 was £89.00 last December with cherished car insurance.
House Insurance with Hastings Direct as gone up £50 due at the end of this month, but I have done quotes and still they came back as the cheapest.
The Discovery is due in May again with Hastings Direct, normally around £300.
I did a quote last week and it came in at £400.

Cheers 👍

I always shop around at renewal and don't ever simply accept the renewal premium quoted by my existing insurer.

I have a fair few vehicles with them, and can usually get a good price on the classics - but this Freelander despite being 22 yearts old is causing me a headache, as it isn't a classic and the premium has gone through the roof for some reason.

Oh well,  onwards and sideways......

I use a company called MSM - they're not a LR specialist but have insured my kitcars for the last 20 years and I have had a complicated no-fault claim sorted by them back in the day, so I know how well they work when the worst happens.

They sorted out an agreed value policy with the same underwriter that does my Caterham/Westfield. I know individual circumstances will determine your policy fee - and mine did go up this year - to a heady £104 I think...

If you give them a call, mention Myles and it should set you off on the right track. You'll probably speak to Jan or Dave. Good luck!

My car insurance renewal was nearly 30% higher than last year, despite the fact that I don't do many miles in it now I have retired. I got an on line quote that was cheaper (but not for quite such good cover), rang them up and asked them nicely to cut the premium. They knocked off just over £50, by applying 'an additional discount', on the basis that I would renew if they matched the quote I got. The increase is now about 12%, with the premium being a few pounds less than the on-line quote.

It is always worth a try, as you are offering for them to keep your business at minimum effort to themselves!

The Land Rover premium hadn't gone up by nearly as much, so I just paid it.

I've just rung MSM at a branch local to me:

They don't deal with "normal" cars unfortunately.

This is the one:

That is who I spoke to, they didn't want to know about a single bog standard car.

Mind you, no-one wanted to insure an old cheap Freelander1.

If quotes of well over £1,000 are anything to go by!

My insurance is due end of March. Currently through Lancaster. Had a quick look in advance on comparison site and it's not much different just a few pounds. There was another quote five pounds higher. The next quote was another two hundred pounds more. I'll be sticking with Lancaster at this rate.

Yours is a bit different though Andy being a daily driver used for commuting

Yes I was just highlighting the vast difference in insurance quotes. Two being similar then the next lowest was a couple of hundred pounds more.
