I don't have a problem tightening or releasing the nylons but was considering being a bit more authentic in fitting castle nuts.

When breaking the tapers this time I had to put a lot of pressure on my ball joint splitter, I cant remember them ever being so tight

My apologies, to clarify,  the root to my question is not rivet-counter. More I'm curious for why the military had these? I've seen these offered at car-meets, there's always one for sale on eBay. I assumed S2 and S3. Maybe not S2, yet they're a definite LR Series item.

My question assumes like me, someone has seen these, and one of you has one on an LR. Hence, knows what they do; why the military have them. I assumed, wrongly, they are common as dirt. Seems not.

Why is it not called a Fog-light, why a Rear-guard?

And why infra-red? See Prc2156

I know a lot of vets, I'll have a word.

One trick is to put a dab of super glue on the taper. You can then tighten up nyloc nuts with no problem.

You will have no trouble breaking the taper join next time you needn't to replace the ball joint.

That would follow. Military registrations often get re-allocated once a vehicle is cast, so its quite feasible its something else now. Can't be many V8s on the UK MOD fleet these days (if any), so that information is probably out of date.

As an aside, the 110 that apparently carries this number is an armoured one from 1993 Model Year. The ones that went to NP Aerospace were armoured which explains the V8. Commonly known as "Snatch" Land Rovers which didn't get a great name for themselves in Iraq or Afghanistan given that the armour design was for civil defense operations in Northern Ireland, not a full on war situation.

The track rod ends from Emberton must be the standard thread because Charles says for pre 74 vehicles you can reuse the castle nut that you take off with a new split pin.  Unfortunately my knackered ones had nylon nuts on them so I will be looking for 2 Castle nuts as the Emberton ones come with nylons by default

I am away from home at the moment. Does anyone know what size the nuts are.

I agree with Mark the tres should have a tory or Allen socket on the end.  Our eurobox has them on all the tapered joint fittings

602's musings / Want more money?

Hi,

With Alan's permission ....

... I just came across this, assuming I can read my own handwritten notes ...

Updated guidance from Dept of Work and Pensions, on GOV.UK explains that if someone of State Pension Age receives Attendance Allowance, or the Middle or Highest rate component of DLA, PIP, or ADP, they may be entitled to extra PENSION CREDIT of £81 per week (£326 every four week period).[/b]

I have not yet researched it further than that.

Maybe Alan will know if both Barbara and myself can pass on to BENEDEN (he will know what I'm talking about) the cost of Barbara's daily bed-bath, and/or the cost of having MY daily shower with (personalised back wash), and OUR brekky, lunch and tiffin, all in bed.

I fell recently, with my little "tut" of a Carer being unable to lift my 100kg, so she had to drag me to the nearest convenient bit of furniture, so that I could pull myself up the "North Face" of my "hospital" bed).

Hi,

The pedal return spring should "do what it says on the label"....unless the pedal is seized on it's pivot pin.

The complexity of hammering the old pin out of the pedal box is beyond comprehension, requiring heat, penetration oil, an anvil, and a club hammer.

I usually shear the locating pins by driving the fulcrum pin out, and use an emery disc then reduce the fulcrum pins outside diameter, so that it will literally drop through both the pedal and the tower.

Replacement involves drilling an oil hole in the pedal ... I have not yet drilled and tapped the fulcrum pin, screwed in a grease nipple, and used R-clips to hold everything together. Someday, someone would thank me.

General Discussion / nice S2 on Endeavour
Last post by Richard - Yesterday at 10:36 PM
Nice bronze green 88" Series 2 (2a?) on Endeavour Morse, Series 5, episode 4 (only now on Dutch television), around 43:00. Registration number 32KK19, which the DVLA doesn't know, but the MOD says (on page 3/3) is a "TRUCK UTY MED (HT) W/VPK LAND ROVER 110 V8 PTL (DESERTISED)". Interesting :cool (Image quality leaves something to be desired...)
