All lightweights were fitted with FFR tilts, with flaps on the sides for antenna.

Hi,
Canvass and hoops are all the same size pick bits up as and when you see them.
Just a note military hoods do not have the straps to tie the sides up like civvy hoods.

Thank you, so my next question is whether the early S2 bumpers had a different width but still retained the strengthening plate, similar to the S1.

Thank you for the replies, the breadth of knowledge and experience always makes me smile.

My question is one of trying to seek authenticity. During part of the whole of the 58MY, were the bumpers used those similar to the S1 with the reinforcement around the starting handle hole, or did they use the more familiar bumper without the reinforcement plate.

Regards

Having had a S1 with a S2 bumper fitted in the past I reckon you could go the other way.  The starting handle hole will be in the correct place

Vox Populi my arse !

Let's not forget that it cost the best part of 40 million pounds to put up these new speed limit signs and given the size ( small ) of the political apology it will cost another 5 million pounds to put some of the speed signs back.

" They " have been embarrassed and shocked at the outcry over 20 mph and are afraid of losing votes and nothing more.

This reversion is only a sound bite to appease folks so they will feel better and switch off from the issue, nothing will change ubfortunately.

Saving lives ?

Let us not forget that " they " have said ( on the record ) that there is no need for expensive road projects and road repairs when all they have to do is reduce the speed limits instead.

This road speed reduction isn't really a case of human welfare by virtue of a policy decision it is the side effect of a smokescreen to cover up the policy of not spending money on our roads.

Saving lives ? I was speaking the other day to a friend of mine who is a paramedic, opinion there was that he finds it harder and takes longer to get to an incident as a direct result of the new 20 limits.

Anyway what would I know ???

All I know is that the band D council tax in my area is more than £300 more expensive than a different council area ! - different political colour and a distinct lack of vanity projects being undertaken.

Vanity projects !!!!

" They " want to increase the number of Welsh MP's from 60 up to 96

Where is the money coming from ?

I feel another smokescreen coming our way, side benefit is it will cover up the blue smoke from my Land Rovers exhaust as I toddle along up the road being chased by Greta

I also feel moderation coming along and hopefully a locked topic.

Morning all. I trust the sun is shining where you are.
I have been pondering all the lovely photos of series 2s and light weights, often with canvas tilts, I was wondering what the differences are. I have too many other things to sort before throwing several hundred pounds at a new one, so in the short term, will any series one fit my LW (my fam are trying to think of a name) or do I need to look for something specific. The same applies to the hoops etc. I am beginning to think I should have spent more in the first place to have all these things already, but hey ho. We are where we are. Well at lesst the chap in Craddocks seemed quite interested stating he hadn't seen a 2a LW for a while.

Hi,

I have rebuilt a couple of S1s onto S3 chassis ... everything fits fairly easily, apart from the bulkhead (firewall), and even that might fit if S1 outriggers were specified for the S3 chassis.

I got round that problem by building my own bulkhead from 50 x 50 x 3mm RHS and 3mm steel sheet. My second version was built by the apprentices at the Ford Axle Plant in South Wales, using my original drawings. (£200 cash)

Memory suggests that the S2 front bumper is physically bigger ((deeper)) than the S1. The S1 bumper looks flimsy by comparison.

Alan may have a photo of FEU254 in his files, which will show the lack of vents on the bulkhead, the macho bumper, and wider LWB rims. Being a 1957 S1. it has an 88" wheelbase.

In Scotland we have had a programme of reduced speed limits.

As a result, the number of killed or seriously injured, on the road network, has dropped.

Surely better for all.
