What kind of chassis

I bought a new Shielder galvanized chassis a few weeks ago. Described as suitable for an 88" late 2a, it has a removable gearbox crossmember.
I tried to fit the gearbox today and after a long struggle I concluded there was something wrong!
I removed the removable crossmember and compared it with the old chassis. I could see immediately why it wouldn't line up. :confused
Have they just made a mistake, or is this crossmember for a different model?

If you look at the right hand side of the photo and compare the mountings it appears as though the one on the new chassis has been welded on the wrong way round.  I think they are both on the wrong way

I would be sending that photo to shielder and asking for their comments

That's what I thought too. I just wanted to make sure it wasn't a later type, Series3 perhaps?
I'll be getting in touch with Shielder's tomorrow.

Thanks,

Gearbox mounts are in the same place on S1, S2 and S3 because they use the same gearbox casing

shielder stuff continues to amaze me....

I had one of their bulkheads, strong, but the issues :ranting

they 100% look the wrong way around

At least it on a bolt on piece, they can simply send you a new crossmember.

Don't forget the problems we found a few years ago with replacement dumb-irons that had the plates welded on the wrong way around so the spring offset was inside and not outside the chassis rail! It isn't just Schielder that occasionally get it wrong.
