Morning.
Just wondering Why Land Rover changed from Solex to a Zenith Carburettor.

It's basically the same company. The carburettor on my Series 3 is a Zenith 36IV but it has Solex stamped on the casting. Zenith was founded in 1912 as the English arm of a French company which in 1965 joined  Solex, another French company.
Series 3 Owner but interested in all real Land Rovers.

The change from the Solex 40PA to the Zenith 36IV was on the introduction of the suffix J 252 engines about May 1967
The old days are the old days only because there're gone and won't be back.

Might be a bit earlier as my April 67 IIA has the original 36IV carb.
I always thought it was a Suffix D chassis number change along with the black dash, single wiper motor, negative earth etc.

My engine number is 25289485J

I can only assume the reason they changed is the Zenith was a better bit of kit than the Solex or maybe it was simply down to cost. The Solex on my series one engine is a complicated thing, far more parts to it than the Zenith carb has.
