I could come and have a look, I have a fairly good idea what it should look like

Hi,

Going a smidgen OT, as normal.

I have wired remote starter switches in PARALLEL with the original "big button" starter switch.

That way you can spin the engine without risking it starting, though I'm not sure why you would want to, unless its to fool a clefti-wallah.

That is really unacceptable that it came back missing pieces!

The button on my 86" had a cardboard insulator strip between the poles and traces of rubber hoods over the leads. Here's my first photo of it after I hosed it off. I'm not sure the cardboard helps much but certainly shielding the battery side made sense to me, in case a stray spanner would bump it when I'm working in there, so I replaced it all when I put in a new loom.

I can't remember but I think that other lead off the terminal in my photo is for the fuel pump, via the key switch. So you won't have that unless you have a 2L.
