I just noticed a detail that stood out to me because I painted the exact part on my 88 yesterday. Simone or James, if you're reading this, the yellow lever shroud goes up the other way. The lip curves over the top of the transmission tunnel. You may find high ratio 4WD disengages more cleanly with the spring under its corresponding higher compression than you have it currently. You have a lovely vehicle.

I did notice that myself but then thought that 4WD rod looks very short and sits at a funny angle when compared to my one.

I wasn't sure if the gearbox was different in some way and if the plate on the side of the transmission tunnel was fitted the right way up, I don't think there would be enough movement to select 4WD without the spring binding up.

Maybe the 4WD rod got bent or snapped off at some point?

Craig.
