Hello
I wondered if anybody on the forum is able to assist me?
Because I just uncovered a two and half inch hole in the floor of my 109 truck.
I know that she was purchased by a garage in Bristol who had a racing team in the 60s.
Now unsuspecting that the who is possibly for some sort of winch or Dick Dastardly and Mutley (wacky races) type of missile launcher for the opposition are not sure.
If it is a crane I've also noticed a couple of fixings further towards the cab which would be ideal to make a triangle up for support. I suppose anybody would be able to assist me with this as I know it's a long shot because in the 60s things were reused so it might be a crying or device that was fitted that my been from the 40s or 50s but with the knowledge of this forum I was hoping somebody might be able to assist as if possible I would like to put it back as it was obviously as long as the price leaves me without selling any body parts to fund.
Joking aside if you can help me please let me know
thank you in anticipation

Is there any corresponding steel work on the underside? If it was for a recovery crane or something it would need to be reinforced back to the chassis, the tub floors are very weak really.

No no reinforced metal work to the under side or on the top. It was not a gun as it was used for racing. no gun to big to start the race off.
but thank you for all of your replies

is it for those high mounted trailer towing balls, a towing ball comes through the hole and it can tow the racing teams car around?

Not sure if the hole is in the correct place but I had a SIIA 6 Cylinder LWB Pick Up which had 2 x 2 1/2" diameter round holes which had cover and which were inspection/access holes to get access to the Fuel tank connections.   From memory each hole had a round cover plate which was held in place by 4 small counter sunk screws.

no it is now a 6 cylinder so no rear tank, but I think that the high mounted trailer towing balls might be the answer.

thank you all for your inputs and ideas

I have the fuel tank access holes in my 109" SW but they are rectangular in shape. Been many years since I've looked at them.

Maybe Series 2A - 6 Cylinders had different Rear Tub Access Covers?   As I have seen Square/Rectangular Fuel Tank Access Covers as well.
