Engine number query

My new toy's engine number appears to be 24141807A.
Everywhere I look this up, it says 1969 petrol engine.
It's a 1968 diesel.
Is this just LandRover randomness or has somebody repurposed a later engine?

A previous repair could have used a petrol block - they are to all intents and purposes the same. Just hope and pray you have a diesel crank in there!

Were it me, I'd be dumping the oil and popping a borescope into the drain hole and checking which crank is fitted.
