PS,

Silly question, but can one of those emergency starter pack gizmos be use in lieu (instead) of a battery?  Or even several in series, to power a battery powered car?  Just asking.

I have one of these devices, buzzes if you leave the lights on when you turn the ignition off. It was actually in the car when I bought it. Whether you could get the equivalent today, or knock something up?

I thought this sound good but would it buzz all the time if parking lights left on :confused
or is it on the headlamp circuit
Used to be "oilstain" on old forum

It stops buzzing after a while. However, I don't know if it continues to draw current.

I bought a generic lights-on buzzer kit from eBay a few years ago. It wasn't a challenge to wire in to my side and headlight switches (I have two non-original toggles for these).

Works well. It is sensing the difference in voltage between the 'on' positions of the lights and its own feed - so shouldn't drain the battery if you've turned everything off correctly. If you are daft enough to ignore it, you'd be draining your battery much more quickly anyway!

... just re-read the bit about side lights. Yes, you can wire it just to the headlights if you feel the need to use sidelights and no, as Wittsend says, I have never left it on long enough to see if it cancels itself. A quick look at the current eBay offerings suggests it is unlikely that they will self cancel.

I always seem to be the dissenting voice on these things.I'd say don't bother with battery-pack things. Why oh why? The battery is the weak point just as it is in your LR. Why do you want another? Real world it won't stay charged and will be scrap in 2-3 years, less if you don't keep on top of its charge state.

And you won't.

Buy into Wittsend's isolator switch, a proper trickle-charger and some, proper,. proper long, long jump leads. By proper we mean, proper 20ft long., long jump leads which always work, and don't act like heaters, and always reach. Use welding leads, solder them and make you own. Park another car between you and still start.

What would you want car-acceesory tat by NOCO for?

And if you do want true immediate jump starts buy a MAINS OP 140amp boost charger. Had mine 35 years,. Sealey still make the exact same one. 50 ft extension lead and start your car straight off it. The batteries won't go iffy in 2-3 years, you might guess why?

Bought it sometieme in the late 80s. very early 90s!

Don't go with the sheep. Think.
