Earlier this year I ordered some parts from paddock who shipped promptly using an English company. This lot had a ' track my delivery' function. A tracking device on the van which gave live data on his whereabouts. I watched him make his way in this direction until he reached Mullion ( about 10 miles away) after which he wandered off.
Later that day I got an email from the delivery company explaining that they couldn't deliver as ' the road was closed' and attaching a photo of a road closed sign.
Funny that as I'd driven out an hour earlier with no sign of a road closed and there are 3 roads that will get you here. A creative driver with a road closed sign in his photo album.
Ok, so attempt number 2, this time he got as far as Helston ( again about 10 miles) and made off. This time I jumped up and down a bit with paddock and gave the shipping company a bit of a review on trust pilot. They fixed the problem by removing the tracking devices from their vans !
Fast forward to yesterday, an order from car builder solutions, shipped promptly via dpd who emailed yesterday to inform me that they would deliver between 6 and pm.Of course no one turned up and no contact whatever from dpd. After a bit of digging today I found they are returning the item to car builder solutions. Not only another driver who had better things to do on a Friday evening but what kind of cock and bull story has h made up to have it returned.
I try and keep a sense of humour but sometimes it can be a challenge.

Where are you Ken ?

deepest darkest St Keverne ? Porthoustock ?

If you want a Helston address for it to be sent and for you to pick up from, let me know

Ken

West Yorkshire is a long way from here !! Thanks for the offer, we don't usually have problems here just sometimes a duff delivery driver I think.
I do have sympathy with them over the job they do and if only they'd say I ran out of time or similar I'd have no complaint, it's the nonsense excuses and in this case immediately shipping it back to the sender.
We're just outside Manaccan ( about a mile up a single track lane ) kind of halfway between St Keverne and Helston.
You obviously know your way around here. Some members may have come across us in a manner of speaking on Time Team and Countryfile. They've both been down here to see the fogue at the edge of the field next to us.

Old Hywel

I had to look up fogue.
I'm assuming it's a type of underground chamber, rather than some of the 'urban' definitions. :confused
Search at your own peril.

Ken

Yep, an underground chamber, Neolithic I think and of no known purpose. Walls made from cut rocks. Actually I've never been able to work out what the fuss is about. As stonemasons they were rubbish.
By comparison, Scara Brae on Orkney is breathtaking and none of the archaeologists who enthuse about ' our ' fogue that I've talked to have ever been. Incredible !
Heaven knows what else fogue might mean in line, I thought I'd better fill in with an explanation and save you all from the experience !

Ken

Dpd have just done it again, a replacement sent and once again no delivery, unbelievable !!

Despite clear warning, I've just looked up 'fogue'. I wish I hadn't.

Take my word for it, you don't need to know.

Free delivery puts couriers  in an ever quicker race to the bottom.

I thought it was spelt "fogou"? Very odd word - where does it come from? Is it Cornish?

Ken

Yes, you are correct, my mis spelling. It may be a cornish word but it's origine seems uncertain.

Ken

Did I really spell origin with an added e or was it the chimp in the computer !?
