Evening all. This is Black Dog in Canada, a new member, I am finishing off restoring a 1967 IIa SWB, LHD truck cab. Rightly or wrongly I have fitted new parabolic springs, tyres are equivalent to 7.50 x 16 so I find she is riding high! I think I will need to fit side steps, or carry a step stool with me!
Whilst I am not new to Land Rovers I have never had a vehicle with side steps. Can some one give me some info on how they attach please? I have the early styly 5 inch deep sills, all newly painted and want to be sure they will fit nicely before I order.
Thanks

Hi Black Dog,
Welcome. Have you just joined the forum or have you also joined the Land Rover Series 2 Club itself?

With regard to your side steps, most variants are broadly similar, but it would help if you could identify exactly what you have bought to fit and we will I'm sure be able to help.

I joined the club and forum. I have not purchased anything yet, I would like to keep to the original style if possible. With a SWB I think the fuel tank will be in the way?

Excellent. Hopefully our webmaster will see this and give you members access to this forum. It opens up a few more mines of information.

The side steps usually bolt to the section running along the sill behind your deep sill panels. The only issue might be the stay bar to the main chassis rail. Usually they clear the tank.
