I assume security is non existing on a full rag top, what I mean is that is it really important if the doors lock or not, thanks

I had this question in my mind when ordered my first S3 Soft top, door locks being optional. I eventually decided to order them  only on the basis that someone could not just open the door & grab anything inside, not to prevent a determined thief.

On my Lightweight (it is a hard top) I have a motorbike alarm fitted and swapped the passenger door handle and lock for a key one. On the soft top (I should really fit the alarm but I am still using the Dynamo) but here I use the Disclock (clamshell) steering wheel lock.

Security - rag top or not is a wide subject...

If you have door locks, makes sense to use them.

If something or the vehicle was taken your insurers might ask if the vehicle was locked ???
Any excuse not to pay out.

There are some basic security principles - a lot depends on where you live and if you park in the street and not in a garage. If you regularly park in a public place, is the vehicle left alone for long periods of time etc. etc.

Never ever leave anything of value in the vehicle, never on display.
You can padlock the inner seat boxes, but won't stop a determined thief.

It depends how paranoid you are. There are all sorts of tricks, devices and tactics you can deploy to try and prevent theft.

That said ... this is cheap and works well:-

This works quite well:-

A large snake on the passenger seat also works  ;)

BUT - as we/I always say and has sadly been proved many times - if they want it they will get it. Even to the extent of craning a vehicle up over your house  :thud

Apropos security in the wider sense ...

In the past there have been a few times where someone has shown inordinate interest in my vehicle, more than the casual public exchange of pleasantries - like is it for sale ?
And then had the feeling that I'm being followed (home). On such occasions I take a left, then left, then left and if they are still on my tail drive round a bit more - but never go home.

Paranoid or what ???

I'm lucky, we live up a long cut-de-sac and people have doorbell cams.

If you have to park out in the street the risk is greater and that's one reason why your insurance is higher.

I've had people asking if it's for sale when it's parked on the drive but the giant wheel clamp and  visible Disklok are good deterrents.  Never been asked though when away from home.
