I am mid-way through the total restoration of a 1959 Series 2. Please could someone tell me what are the correct wheels & tyres for this vehicle?

Welcome to the forum George.

Is it an 88" or 109"?

Standardly the 88s were fitted with dated 5" riveted rims, often shod with 6.00x16 Avon Traction Milage (or Dunlop Trakgrip was also an option I think?). 88s could also be fitted with 7.50 tyres as a factory option.

The 109s were fitted with 5.5" riveted dated rims, with 7.50x16 tyres.

Some 88s were also fitted with 6.50x16 tyres.

Bear in mind the tyre sizes also have an effect on your speedo, and there are different numbers printed on the face by the odometer which relate to tyre size. 1536 is 6.00 tyres, 1408 is 7.50 tyres etc.

Your currently fitted speedo will have a number printed which may give a hint to original tyre size if original.

As far as I know, Vintage Tyres in Beaulieu are the only company selling Avon Traction Milage Tyres now, at around £1000 per set of 4.

Both Dunlop RK3 and Avon T.M listed in parts book as standard on 88" . All sorts of options listed in 6.50, 7.00 and 7.50 in 16"  plus 8.20 & 9.00 in 15" sizes
