rear axle number location

I've found the front axle number but am not sure where to look for the rear one? logic says it should be visible from the rear on the passenger side tube?

Depends a bit on whether Tom, Dick or Harry was doing the stamping that day.

But generally on the top ish side near the axle breather...

Well you might with a mirror, a good torch and a wire brush

When checking a 109 awhile back the axle serial number was easily visible on the upper rear section of axle not the very top side so you may be lucky.
