The question relates to the headlamp furniture so to speak not the unit?

These are later replacement units, originals would have been lucas sealed beams would they not?

Wipac could be replaceable bulb type or sealed type.  Most common h4 upgrades.

Flat not domed lenses.

I think you will find that the military headlights originally had replaceable bulbs, not sealed beam units. This is the extract from my 2A Lightweight Parts Catalogue.

I stand corrected DW.

But they according to diagram feature domed not flat lense.  Wipac relative newcomer in comparison to Lucas fitment.

Were military replaceble bulb units lucas oe?

The standard military light units are FV157942 Land Rover Part Number AEU4126 a Lucas 700 Series light unit taking a Pre Focus bulb of either 12v or 24v

Available from Craddocks  https://www.johncraddockltd.co.uk/aeu4126-headlamp-unit-military-vertical-dip.html or slightly cheaper from Champ Spares via ebay

These were standard fitment to a wide range of military vehicles.

Out of interest do they suffer from getting moisture in them with them not being sealed units?

Does that wreck the reflector finish?

O7BE16

Probably, but the miles I cover in my Champ and hope to cover in my Lightweight it should not be an issue!

On the topic of champs, what is/are parts availability and parts prices for them.

What goes wrong, what are the weak points to watch out for.

Blame Henry cole who bought/featured one on shed and buried very recently for the pricked interest.

At the risk of being forced to leave the club for mentioning Champs too often..............

Parts availability is quite good / reasonably priced via Champ Spares. Back axles are a a known problem however this probably has something to do with the oil having a tendency to leak out. Rust is obviously also a problem with a 70 year old all steel vehicle, but the body is fairly simple to repair and can be removed from the 'platform' chassis to make things easier. The floor, front bulkhead, front wings and seat box are all welded together to form a platform , the body tub is the bolted to this. The Rolls Royce B40 engine is also fairly robust.
