anti freeze? stains on paint work

Just a little tip that may be of value to some
Over a year ago a passing lorry sprayed a liquid over the series, no idea what it was but now think anti freeze, this dried on and left many splash stains that nothing would remove and I feared that either I had to live with it or pay for a respray, I "think" the paint is a single pack.
Reading on another non Land Rover forum today It was sugested to use meths, I tried this followed by a polish and all the stains have gone   but dont rub the meths in to hard as it seem to soften the paint
