Hello.
I took the cylinder head off my 1959 spare engine a few days ago and started to clean it up tonight.
The remaining paint on it is a grey colour not the duck eggy blue that I did my 1961 head a few years ago.

I looked at the PaintMan site (here) and he is showing the grey (that looks the same) as a 2L diesel up to 1960 but not petrol, although he does say:

"It was also used on other Rover and Land Rover engines during this time. "

So would this be the colour?

Interestingly when I was under my S2 doing the sump, there were bits of grey on the bottom of the engine under the gunk so looks like that should be the colour of the engine (should that ever get done) too.

Does this sound correct?

I'd agree with that. I bought the grey paint for doing up the Club's 1960 151 engine from the Series One Club shop after much discussion on here.

My 59 and early 60 petrol engines and heads were both the grey colour, matched to existing paint so that's what I repainted them with.
Paintmans grey was a very close match.

The engine in my'59 Rover 80 was grey all over.

The original one in my'59 109" was too rusty to tell. 🤣
