You have my condolences and best wishes John, and although I haven't met you, the way you  have allowed us into your life with all the memories you have shared about your life with Barbara has been wonderful, I do hope that you stay with us in some way and carry on contributing.

Hi,

Well, our daughter (SARA) cleared the wardrobe, .... about eight feet of it, of Barbara's 'things', and her half of the 'Adjustamatic' double bed has gone.

Some of you readers may remember my query, of some months ago, about the necessity of a car's keeper being the owner .... meaning the "mere" driver is not mentioned on the insurance certificate. I'm pretty sure that I intended to tell her to put my name on the V5.

Can anybody comment?

But did she?

All I remember is that I mentioned they were going to stop manufacturing liquid powered cars, and this battery powered car arrived on our drive very soon afterwards. I have no memory of receiving any documentation - not even an insurance certificate.

I suppose I could ask the local Main Dealer ... but we live between two dealers, and don't know which dealer she bought it from. They are both about 4 miles from my house, but in opposite directions.

I'm afraid you will need to contact the relevant insurer, unless it was part of an offer I doubt the dealer will know.
These days most Certificates etc are sent by Email unless you ask for them to be Posted, and sometime charge you for that privilege.
If you have access to Barbara's Emails I would start there.
Good Luck.

The name of the selling dealer should be in the service book. Also you may be able to identify it by a dealer sticker or name on the number plate.

There is a remote possibility that Barbara provided the insurance details to the dealer so the vehicle could be taxed from new although some dealers do this on their trade policies.

Hello John, I`ve been away from the forum for several days and only now have seen your very sad news. My condolences to you and your family.
Probably like many here, I'm at an age when I`m hearing this kind of news more frequently. It could be a friend, or someone I`ve worked with or grown up with. Thankfully I`ve not yet had to deal with the loss of a sibling.
I`m glad to hear you have your family around you and I wish you strength.

Hi,

Well, This little mind managed to log onto one of those new car websites. the car was registered as NEW on January 1st (a Bank Holiday?), and LICENCED on January 24th, so I assume two separate transactions.

Looks good, but best check our bank statements for last December, and January ... which our daughter is working her way through. I'll chase her tomorrow.

I have no recollection of posting a letter to DVLC, but maybe she cancelled her driving licence by phone. I'll chat with our daughter tomorrow.

OT, I have started to file our historic bank statements in 20-page display folders,  with one month's statements (not usually more than two pages per "slot"). back  to back, so I get a full month, per two page spread). Easier to do than describe.'

Nuff for now!

I've just seen this as I've not looked on here for a while.
I'm so sorry to hear of Barbara's passing, my deepest sympathy sir.
Good to see you have still been posting, as others have alluded to your stories and anecdotes are quite legendary.

Hi All,

I just got out of bed "properly" .... I don't take Wilkie to my daughter's for his walk on Sundays (He is looking lost without Barbara), So I've stayed in my "night attire" (sweat shirt and joggers" ... I wear similar, but different colours for my day attire ... my girls wash my "kex" every day, and my feet are too far away to pull my socks on, but I can pull my "trainers" on using a long handled shoe-horn. Don't laugh, your day will come.

Just checked ... I can still read a number plate at a lot further than 25 yards.

OT. When I was Team Leader in "Drivers Medical" at DVLC, we would get at least five immediate failures every day

because the candidate was unable to read registration plates  :thud . There were four other teams like mine, with similar hit-rates. How can driving schools let that happen? HMG should erect "TEST YOURSELF" plates in lay-bys, with white lines at the appropriate distance. (Shades of 1984 ... Orson Wells? "BIG BROTHER IS WATCHING YOU")
Almost all such failed drivers would apply for a Replacement Licence, enclosing photographs of themselves wearing spectacles.

My Lady has arrived, and it's only 15.00hrs.

Hi John, I'll try and pop round again in the next few days. Just a thought, even though your car is currently zero rated, it still needs to be licensed from first January. You should have received a reminder letter from DVLA in last couple of weeks. I'm happy to chat with your daughter to see what help I can give going forward. Dave
