Hi all, I've had a very thorough google, with no luck, and was hoping one of you experts could help me decode this engine number.

A Photo would help.

If it is a 2.25 petrol remember that the same engine, using a different number sequence was fitted in the Rover 80

That engine is from a 1961/62 UK market RHD Rover P4 80.

It's basically the same as the 1961-onwards 2.25 petrol from a Series 2A Land-Rover, with a slightly different oil pump drive gear (to make it quieter), and would have come fitted with a Series 2 style front timing cover with the earlier water pump, and also a smaller vertically mounted oil filter that took the same filter element as the 2.6 engines. Both the timing cover and oil filter are easy swaps, and could well be the later parts by now.
