What lives on these mounts on a 3MB

Quicky easy question for someone. By the coiler era you'll see air-con and PAS pumps swinging in the breeze on the LHS of our engines, see the 5MB photo. Such things weren't fitted to 3MB, yet the mount sits there. See red square. I just like to know this stuff, what goes here on 3MB engines?

Serious Series

Was the same engine not also fitted to Rover cars at the time , maybe something the car had and not the landrover.

Ah, that hadn't occurred to me. Suspect the Auntie Rovers had PAS etc.

Does the Fairey capstan winch utilise these holes?

there is 2 types of brackets for the aeropart capstans, one goes to the front holes on both mounts and the one you have pictured going to the side holes.

I have one that goes to the side holes too, I'll attach in another comment as can't do it with quotes...

Thinking about this: Much as those mounts are used on the 5MB - because by that point, forget earlier uses, they were there - I wonder if there was a still prior use, this BEFORE winches?  Maybe to hold everything still in assembly. On the Auntie Rover they may see another use? Anyone here an Auntie anorak?

They weren't used for anything on the P4 Rovers; at least, they weren't used for anything on my 1959 80, and I am not aware of anything that my car could have been fitted with to use them.

I think they were used to mount the engine governor on, for PTO uses that required fixed engine speeds.

Thanks Glen. From that, then... If I'm right with dates, the Rover P4 got this engine at roughly the same time as LR? Hence it sat in the drawing-office at the same time, drawn from the off, for both applications?

With that info we might assume this mount was minded to LR optional equipment from the start.

Do still earlier LR engines get this mount? if so, that rather nails it.
