I have a friend 150 miles away in the Sierras, and she wants a rack on her P38. Does any one know the size for the bolts that hold down the roof rails? Any good source for a rack?

Thanks,
gene

Depends what is already fitted to the roof. If (as a lot of NAS vehicles had), it has raised side rails already installed, your options are a bit limited unless you remove the rails although most cross bars can be made to fit. If it does not have raised roof rails already fitted, then your best option is to source a set of Thule roof bars or a complete Thule roof system. I'm not sure if its the same in the US, but roof rack systems sales for Range Rovers have always been poor, so finding second hand roof racks can be a challenge. The original factory fit system is no longer available from JLR.

Might be worth contacting a local US JLR dealer and enquiring. It is highly possible that LRNA sourced roof racks for NAS vehicles from local North American sources.

Finally - the best source for Range Rover information is the rangerovers.net forum. (https://www.rangerovers.net/).

Thanks Mark, I've been on RR.net., YT and other sites. She does not have the roof rails. I am trying to find the bolt size for perhaps some eyebolts for a temp tiedown for a long item.
Info on the web is very hard to find with my google-fu.   I think it is a M6 x 1 ?

I need to go and look at my own P38 before somebody tows it away to a scrapper... As far as I recall under the slider covers on the roof section are standard gutter mounts. I'll try and have a quick look later.

I remember now...
Slide back the cover strips in each corner of the roof and there is a special ridge in there to clamp on to.
I think I had a pair of cross bars for one of my previous P38As, but this one clearly has never had anything fitted.

I'm afraid I have no idea what size fixings. They probably were something paltry like M6, but it does depend on who made the rack or roof bars.

I see that Thule still do a roof rack system based on two roof bars.

Thanks for the update! I will try to get my friend to send me some pictures. Mind if I send yours to her?

I sold my P38 this year and all the Rails & Roof Bars, I still have a few spares and diagnostic tools and all the photo's.

I have checked the photos and found the attached, the Roof Rails are Not Directly screwed to the Roof, they are CLAMPED, 6 Clamps per Roof Rail, see the attached Photos.

If you have roof rails fitted then you can either use the Standard but very expensive P38 Roof Bars or Cheaper standard Adjustable Roof Bars can also be used.

Hey 2D man! Thanks for that! Between Diffwhine and you my friend has confirmed she has those clamping points. :cheers
