Morning all,

I'm in the market for some extra security for my truck.

At the moment i'm thinking about a pedal lock ('Ardcase style) or a steering wheel lock (plenty available).

Does anyone have any comments on security v ease of use of these style of devices?

Any other thoughts welcome.

Cheers,

Chris

I use both an ardcase pedal lock and a disklok on mine as a deterrent but if somebody wants it badly enough they'll take it I'm sure but at least it'll make it extremely difficult....gives me a degree of peace of mind when I leave it anywhere anyway. They are a bit of a pain to take on and off but you soon get used to it and it only takes less than a minute to lock and unlock them both and better than the aggravation of an insurance claim for sure!

They're all a pain in the backside to use. Like locking wheelnuts, they're generally more inconvenience for the owner than a determined thief.

If anyone really wants your vehicle, it will be gone regardless.

Yes, I have to agree but I would much rather put up with the inconvenience of releasing anti theft devices than having the Land Rover stolen. Any good device slows even the most determined thieving scum down unlike the easy keyless entry which is so easy to overcome.
I have several devices on my Land Rover.

My opinion:

# carry an Ardcase pedal lock when out and about, easy to use and a deterrent to casual thief.

# a Bulldog wheel clamp for use when parked up.

# a steering wheel can easily be removed if it's the pinch bolt type, so disklocks etc. not much use in my opinion

Depends, I suppose, on how, where and how often you use the vehicle.

Something infrequently used, left unattended for prolonged periods, I'd definitely recommend something; but the last thing I want to be arsing about with on the way to work at 3am in the dark are "anti theft" devices...

Thanks for the replies, it's mainly for out and about so I think a pedal lock type will do me.

I'll do some research.

Use ardcase on both S2a and Defender, good company with excellent after sales service. I have an unused one if interested

I've seen one of those heavy-duty motorbike chain locks looped under brake and clutch pedals and over the steering column.
Very solid and 'folds/loops up' for storage.
Easy to put on and take off, too.
The pedal design means you can't slip it off the pedals as long as it's tight.
Seemed a good solution to me.

Radfords make a well made hand brake lever lock that whilst not unbeatable I have one on each of my series as well as other things, and it ia quick and easy to use.

Cordless 18V angle grinders seem able to beat most things I'm sorry to say :thud

I use a big yellow disclok. The idea is to deter potential thieves by he security being very visible. I have padlocks on the bonnet and fuel cap and a motorcycle shock alarm. This goes off if the vehicle is rocked or a forced entry is tried. That and few other things I wont tell on here  :cool

I have a pedal lock which is fine but for nipping into the shop I use this padlocked to the seat it then tucks behind the cubby box still padlocked when not in use on the steering wheel comprises of a padlock chain bolted onto a cut down steering wheel lock

I use an 'Ardcase pedal lock, and I think its an excellent deterrent.

Accepting that the really determined thief (thieves) will somehow get your vehicle no matter what precautions you take, is no reason not to make your vehicle more difficult to steal.

Yes, the pedal lock is heavy. Yes, it needs to be stored in the vehicle whilst you're driving.  Yes, it takes a few moments to lock and to unlock, but moments that could prevent my vehicle being stolen are not wasted moments in my view.

I also popped an Apple AirTag inside the pedal box, just in case my vehicle was dragged away to somewhere the thieves could cut the pedal box off.

I am impressed with the 'ardcase.  A good product, and a good company.

The few seconds it takes to fit & remove my SafeTpedal is never a waste of my time when compared to the resulting hassle & heartache I would have following a theft.

The SafeTpedal is a heavy lump, big enough to deter and not (probably not) quick or easy for scumbag to remove.

There are more than just hardware solutions, think electrical.

I know it won`t be possible for many, but if you can, don`t park it overnight lined up on your drive where it can easily be towed away. I`m fortunate to be able to park mine behind a wall at a right angle to the drive.

Generally, the more levels of security you have, the smaller are your chances of theft.
