Greetings I'm new to the forum and Series ownership and thought I'd say hello.

I'm going to be the owner/ restorer of a 1963 Series 2a - once I get it up to Yorkshire from Cornwall. It's been off the road for a while so I'm expecting I'll be on here picking your brains for advice once I get started.

There's a few things I know it needs, the most obvious being a new seat box and seat rails and a new wiring loom. Also the rear tub has corroded at the front bottom where it mounts to he sill rails. Hopefully, this area can be repaired. I think I've found a repair panel at YRM - if it's classed as the strike plate/B post front of rear tub. It'll be interesting to see how it all fits.

I'm sure there'll be lots more once I get started, but I'm looking forward to getting stuck in and getting her back on the road. Hopefully, I won't drive you all nuts asking questions. Thanks in advance.

Welcome! You've certainly come to the right place. I've recently fitted new wiring looms to both of my Land Rovers - thanks in no small part to the fantastic wiring diagrams that we have available on the forum.

Welcome!

I've just fitted a Boomslang wiring loom to my 64. Good idea to stock up on relay brackets if yours doesn't come with.

Plenty of knowledgeable club members in Yorkshire to offer help and advice but it is a big place.  Being more specific  might be helpful.  If you haven't already done so she'll out £25 on club membership. You will soon get that back in discounts

Hello Littlelegs,

Sounds like our rear tubs are in similar condition ('61 88"). I put in a new rear load area in the summer then turned to the corrosion in the bulkhead and slam post, rear wing areas. I cut the corroded portions at staggered heights and ran a piece of 2mm ali up behind them, held by two new 1/4" bolts (in picture), bonded together with Tiger Seal and eventually domed ali rivets behind into countersunk holes on the face. I bent the repair sections to the same profile as the corroded sections.

I'm in York myself so maybe we'll meet soon as either vehicle becomes mobile.

Good luck with the rest.

Cheers for the welcome folks.
I've already become a club member and am finding my way around the site/forum. The member discounts will probably pay me back the membership fee given I'm going to need a few parts. :coffee
Any advice appreciated, especially on where best to get a seat box and wiring loom. I'll take a look at Boomslang - never heard of them.
I expect it'll be some time before I'm up and running but looking forward to the process and meeting fellow Landry folk. :cool
Cheers

Paddocks sell the wiring loom and give us a good discount too, so it might be worth checking their other stuff out to build up a tidy sized order  :cheers-man

What's wrong with the seat box? Repair panels are avaliable.

We have plenty of club members in the Leeds area and Paddocks at Matlock is a good excuse to combine picking up parts with a day out in the Peak District

It doesn't exist as it was so rotten the previous custodian scrapped it. So time to replace it with a new one or good second hand.

I don't think new seatboxes are available, but happy to be proved wrong.

If not available new, it is probably a matter of putting a wanted ad on here or keeping an eye on eBay.

I have one in a shed, but Leeds is a fair step away.

Tell Wittsend you are a member. He will check, and add that to your avatar (so people don't keep telling you to join! ;) )

I have asked my mate in Derby if he has one, I have a front panel and some new ends, possibly other bits. But I am in Rugby so a bit further away.
