Has anybody seen this before on a Series 2 inside door?

A steel inside door pocket.

Hi Talullah,

I've had similar ideas for many years, but got no further that mentally designing (on the inside of my forehead) a FLAT sheet of stiff ally, pop-rivetted to the frame of the door. It would probably carry an atlas or a couple of maps.

It would probably be easier to pop-rivet a smaller map pocket to the side (both ends?) of the seat box.  Or even the front of the seat box?

The original (1959) BMC Mini doors required de-flexing, so BMC made a similar device ... in fact the box in your picture may have originated on an early Mini. At that time, everybody thought the Mini door box was a wonderful idea ... an example of turning a liability into an asset.

From time to time, I have pondered on making a (soft/flexiblish) tray across the top of Land Rover windscreen, between the roof and the screen frame. It would be big enough to carry a pen and a box of matches, and maybe " ... something for the weekend, Sir!"

Hi, I've not seen that before, it doesn't appear to be for the door in my opinion due to the overlap on the outer edge, however I could be mistaken to me that is a water trap and looks to have done exactly that with the extensive rot immediately below it,  :cheers-man Paul

only ever seen the original doorcard pockets personally.

looks like something from an old fridge to me, internal shelf on a door maybe ???

either way I bet it worked fine for what was needed

Instead of a door pocket I have a Polish army bread bag hung on the door

Hi,

Do a Google (or simple query) for a PICTURE OF A CLASSIC MINI DOOR POCKET.

Some results appear to have a moulded cardboard (?) covering, but at least one result is bare "tin", and you can see the flange and screw heads.

I think that is the door pocket from a Hillman Imp.  Never seen one used in  series 2 though.

Easiest and most Land Rover owner solution (cheap and easy) is a piece of sheet material cut to fit across the door frame at the bottom (much like how the door card attaches). Creates a simple pocket, not very wide but also not intrusive in the cab and no bolts through the door skin.

Well, if you are going to change the parameters ....!

I can see the Imp similarities and from this side looks a good mod, rust apart !
What the outside like ?

I like the polished wooden door capping!
