Hi, My 1958 109" had recently come back from some work at a garage, one of the numerous small bits that seem to have not come back with it, is one of the brass nuts off the push start switch?

Anyone happen to know what size and thread these are? I've rummaged through my limited stock and I've nothing that fits. I don't really want to remove the switch just to take it "Nut Shopping"  🙄

Many thanks in advance

Try 5/16" UNF and it will be a "half nut" i.e. one that is half the height (thickness) of a standard nut.

You should have plenty of 5/16" nuts (and bolts) in your spares collection as this is a very common size used on Land Rovers. Once confirmed, you can order a brass nut(s) off eBay.

You can replace it with a full nuth though

Thankyou I'll get a couple ordered.

I'm guessing there should be 2 half nuts, stacked as lock nut?

You could always cut a slot in a full nut, squeeze it up slightly and make it into a stiff nut

Peter

Uffddd

I think probably spring washers?

Have they fitted a separate solenoid for the starter? Im sure the heavy battery cable goes to one side, and the equally heavy cable to the starter on the other. I presume it's not used a starter switch anymore?

Starter motor is off a later engine with a solonoid.

A later combined Ignition/Heater/Start switch has been grafted into the middle of the dash, replacing the PRS3 switch, not really there fault, the new wiring harness was supplied incorrect. Just wish they'd told me what they were doing.

Got the vehicle back home now, so I'm just in the process of trying to put it all back. Not helped by the fact that they can't find my orginal PRS3 Switch, knob and ignition barrel 😮💨

Where in the North West are you?

Chorley, I'll get it all sorted, it's just frustrating. Ordered a 5/16 BSF brass half nut.

Interesting, I live just down the road in Adlington

I'm actually just north of Chorley in Clayton-le-Woods, but yes i'm not far at all from you in Adlington
