Never seen anything pro-porting to be from something either. Having just sat through 2 hours of corporate IT protection policy courses yesterday, the first thing they say is look for bad English, poor grammar and so on.

I think the first thing to look for is your name, not dear ***** first line of your email, they would have your name and most of your details, they don't send out emails as far as I know, they write to you

Yes, language errors, and a quick search on the internet often helps to expose the scam as a scam, as in this case, where Wales Online reports (some six months ago) a 600 % rise in fraudulent DVLA messages over a three month period...
