Our 1948 land rover side plate engine no 8600226 having been rebuilt ran for the first time since 1971 this weekend.  It is sat in the chassis of our 49 as an engine stand.  Unfortunately I cannot post the video but here is a still from it

Well done Peter, for having this very early engine restored.

All you need now is a '48 to put it in!  :cheers-man

Charles technically I still own it, it is registered in my name but I haven't seen it since 1985 - if it still exists it will be a pile of rust in a hedge bottom.  Chassis number 8600147 a pre 1500 model. I wish we still had it.  We do though have a 49 in the process of being restored

Twenty years ago, I stumbled across 860169, so very close to yours.

For some reason it had an extremely early engine: 860098.

The old chap would not sell it and I suspect it stayed in his shed until his passing.
The V5C was last changed in 2014, and I wouldn't be surprised if that was to a member of the family.
It is still SORN'd

So they are still out there!
