I currently am running my series 2 petrol without a fan in the winter
I would like to go electric for the summer
Can anyone recomend the best electric fan kit?
Thanks
Steve

I fitted a 14" Aeroline to mine about 3 years ago and never had a problem.
Mine's a daily driver and I don't ever fit the manual fan blades and she never goes above normal.
I've got a 2.25 diesel in mine so can't really comment on other motors.
I'd recommend fitting a thermo switch in the top hose so you're not always studying the guage.

Mine is an ancient Kenlowe who no longer manufacture. It has a dial to set the cut in temperature but the probe is in the top hose but no problems after a long period. The mechanical fan has been removed and no problems. The only time I watched the temperature gauge climb was in a slow moving queue for the Newbury Land Rover event.
The later fans use the radiator core as a temperature sensor, Revotec being one.

The Aeroline looks like good value
They seem to recommend 16" but that looks a bit large - I assume 14" would be easier to fit
Is yours fitted infront or behind radiator? There does not look like a lot of room between the radiator and the water pump pulley - looks like only a couple of inches
Some advice?
Thanks

I got my bits off eBay, a 16" fan and thermostat. The fan is mounted in front of the radiator, the thermostat pickup is mounted close to the output (bottom) of the radiator. Also there is a three way switch, auto/off/on, with a light actuated by the relay (not by the switch) so I know when the fan is on (useful for wading).

Warm up time on the engine is quick, and the fan rarely cuts in.

Fitted nearly nine years ago!

The Kenlowe is in front of the radiator. The fan cowling has to be removed. I think most electric fans are "pushers" ie they push the air through the radiator. Worth checking out before deciding.

Hello Steve

I fitted my 14" Aeroline in front of the radiator and it was an absolute doddle.
However they are reversible so you have the choice.
For the money they'd take some beating and as has been said they're very rarely on.

A manual override on/off with warning light when the fan is on is very useful.
Good practise to turn the fan off when wading/fording.

Also, a water temp gauge is handy (if you have a pre-1967 model).

Hello Steve

Here's a pic of mine installed on the latest money pit.

Why not just put the mechanical fan blade back on for summer?

If it's save-a-tenner the Aeroline is fine. Buy the largest you can shunt in, thus it runs less, and cools quicker. 14" from memory...

For a daily, as with  heated-screens, I'd say an essential. Warm-up is so much quicker.

Problem is the usual lash-in thru-rad fixings. They will stetch. Common issue, then they rub and puncture the rad. For a toy that's fine, you'll get away with it. For a daily... with proper brackets, the money-no-object choice is....

Alan Drover

The advantage of the Kenlowe is that it's got mounting brackets that attach to the bodywork not the radiator.

Having oscillated between mechanical and electric over the years for various reasons, all I can say is that I've never had a mechanical fan not work correctly.

Neither Do I, and I am sure our temps in Aus are slightly warm than yours?
