Is there a good YouTube video of V8 conversion?

As the title - I've scoured the intertwit but can't find find anything which covers the issues.

Most of us did them long before the days of YouTube I'm afraid. You might be lucky, but I think you may get a better result of you team up with a local member of the S2C who has got a converted vehicle.

That was what I was thinking, long-gone. Engine-waffle was as tyre-threads today. Back-in-the-day, that'd be all we'd natter about.

"Nah, you want a Cummins in there mate".... nope, never, you fooooolll, a Jag V12 drops straight in; cue the bloke with the 'Tdious'; "What about my Routemaster bus"; my mate says, etc.

Oh, the memories. I say start now.

Following on from that then, is there someone with a V8 conversion near Bridport, Dorset that I could have a peer into/under?

Have you looked into the Forum Archives ???

In the workshop section there are some posts relating to V8s.

Can't believe the google-poodle won't reveal info, even today. Never a week went by - usual suspects the V8, or a Tdious - plenty did them. See the aftermath on eBay. Never less than £4-6000 and six months of your mortal coil to do right. Usual was to have done in a weekend.

Did I mention my mate has a Nissan lump with a special MGB frog-eye Cortina diesel carburetor in his S1?

Hi John.
The V8 done right is a lovely thing.
If you are ever near Moreton in marsh and fancy taking mine out for a razz then you are very welcome.

There's a few really iffy conversions out there, especially with concern to the bulkhead modifications, and wiring. My advice would be to just buy a V8/s2 custom loom from autosparks, an exhaust from Parker's, and everything else is pretty easy. If you can find a Philips adapter kit somewhere, even better.

Good luck bud.

There's a nice one near Peterborough...  :RHD

S2A V8

The 14year rebuild is coming to an end and all being well should be on the road for summer. Not happy with the 4 barrel carb so took it off a few weeks ago and fitted a 4 barrel efi throttle body it now starts first turn of the key. Just got a few more jobs in the engine bay to do, then just wings and doors to paint and fit.

Looks belting. Nice work. Is the efi the sniper one? I've often lusted over that.

very nice! My Cobra took me 20 years to finish! is that a military oil cooler and what exhaust headers have you used?

S2A V8

The oil cooler is just a mocal type one, I did have a go at making the exhaust headers but it was one of the few jobs I failed at miserably and just generated a lot of stainless steel scarp, so I ended up taking the rolling chassis to a local exhaust company and they had it for 3 weeks and made me a complete system I just provided what bits I had left over from my attempt.

Making a custom zhorst is so skilled. People think, "Well, I can weld" therefore...

Nope.

There's so many ways to make a hash of it, umpteen ways to falter. Pun intended, one at every turn. Stainless is worse, it work-hardens thus you're forced to bend once (it might allow a minor tweak) and that'd be your lot.

I did my brakes in S/S. You bend once, and it better be right. Or v.pricey scrap it is. Copper or Kunifer is a breeze. Copper or Kunifer is a doddle, walk it in two hours... S/S is 2 days.

I shudder to think what working in stainless for an exhaust manifold would involve? Way beyond me, I wouldn't dream to delude myself.  It's why mild-steel is so much cheaper - not so much material-cost as how S/S behaves. Don't suppose they took all of that 3 weeks, yet a week's work for a V8 zhorst does not surprise.

People will so under-estimate the skill in a job.

That's why most engine-swaps are lashed-in. The focus is on the engine, the real-cost is the  "HOW MUCH!!!" proper exhaust.
