Hi All.
Just started to look into a new bulkhead for my S2A. Keen on the Pegasus ones. now manufactured by Shielder in Ireland.
Don't have any experience with Shielder can only go by what I read.
Been quoted 4-6 week lead time.
Any views? Will I end up Happy or?

Thanks
Paul.

I think Pegasus bulkheads are still made in the north of England. They did a deal with Shielder but I think it was just as a distribution deal to make it easier for both companies to sell through a wider distribution network. They make the series bulkheads them self still in the Liverpool area.
I dare say it involved a deal with Shielder as well saying they won't start producing their own series bulkheads and Pegasus won't start making 90 / 110 / Defender ones.

From what I've heard of Pegausus, they are well worth the wait. I'd have one for my series one if I could afford it....

Craig.

Thanks Craig,

Spoke to them today and it was mentioned they are made in Ireland.

I'm hoping if they are made to the same spec, should be goo, but alot of money as you say, so need to be sure.

As a word of warning my brother ordered a Pegasus bulkhead in 2016, never received the bulkhead and never got his money back as at the time he paid by bank transfer. It might have new owners, in which case I apologise, but if I didn't say this and someone else got ripped off I would feel I failed.

Pegasus is now under new ownership. However I ordered a reconditioned steering lock/ignition switch for my Series 3 from the old regime back in 2019 and it was delivered within the promised 6 weeks.

I think I've covered this a few times, but evidently need to do so again.

Pegasus went through a terrible patch some years ago - too many orders and an inability to fulfill them. At the time it was a husband and wife company - Paul and Debbie. It is true that there were significant financial issues and very upset customers.

Paul was the driving force behind reproducing spectacularly accurate bulkheads and I gave him one of mine as a template. Paul tragically died very suddenly and unexpectedly I think about 3 years ago now leaving Debbie to cope with a young family and a business with a reputation for excellent quality but abysmal customer service.

She has completely turned it round. The trading arrangement with Shielder works well. If you want a cheaper galvanised generic bulkhead buy a Shielder one. If you want an accurate reproduction of your exact original bulkhead, then buy the Pegasus one and pay the appropriate amount for the time and effort that goes into them.

The past is the past and the business has moved on. The days of the poor reputation are behind them and Debbie has to be commended for her dedication and effort in turning this around. They offer a discount to LRS2C members and produce an excellent product. In my view, you won't get better if you want an accurate replacement. I have bought chassis and bulkheads from pretty much every available manufacturer (including LR Genuine...) and they all have their issues. The key point is that the Pegasus ones are accurate replicas and that counts for a lot in restoration projects.

I spoke to Debbie at the Land Rover event at Thruxton in June 2022 and she told me then that she had a new business partner and the old problems were now a thing of the past.

Same here, I ordered one in 2017 and paid in full but due to the problems they where going through and telling me a few porky pies they cancelled the order 11 months later they said it would take several months to get a refund but luckily I had paid for it on my credit card and got a refund through them, that's when I ordered one from Rob Owen.

Clearly not a pleasant experience and there were many with similar stories.

My point is that this is old news and those concerns have been addressed and sorted.

In terms of quality, I have one from Pegasus (1963 version), and it is very very good.

And I got mine during the bad times!

One Pegasus Bulkhead on order...

thanks spcaekook, blaclab.  Not sure why that wasn't coming up on my searches... mysteries of internet...
I notice they also sell a galvenaised bulkhead for £1800 on their site, I assume this is a SHeilder one, which I believe they now have some relationship with.  Split on whether to try and save £800 and go with the galvie or bite the bullet and get what seem to be the better pegasus ones (going by what I've read..) thanks again
