With all the bits, I have a manual petrol fuel pump, with the glass bowl. There was also a electric pump. Ideas why someone would have opted for the electronic one?  Surely the old pump would be more reliable. What would you suggest?

An electric pump conversion is far superior to the engine operated one as there's no priming needed when starting.
BFS used to do one for Series but I don't know if it's still offered.

My old series 3 drove for many years with the mechanical fuel pump.
When I fitted a Rover V8 it got through 3 Facet fuel pumps in around 6 years each time leaving me with no choice but a tow home.

I know mechanical fuel pumps can also fail but out of choice, I would keep it standard and fit the glass bowl and pump again.

I run vehicles with both.

I agree with Craig that I prefer the mechanical pump, but the electric pump has advantages if you're having to crank your engine over too much - especially in cold weather - to get fuel to the carb.
