Am I correct in thinking the original 2.0 litre petrol engine in my '58 88 would have been painted Admiralty grey? I'm trying to decide what colour to paint the V8's rocker covers - I can't quite decide between grey (might be too much grey with the grey body) or duck egg blue. Can anyone confirm that the duck egg is actually BSC101 Sky Blue?

If you buy paint, a Tip for you, get the smallest tin possible, I now have enough left over DEB to pant a fleet of cars!!

Personally I wouldn't paint any part of a Rover V8

They are off course aluminium and finding a primer that will stick to it for any length of time will be difficult. I saw one once in a custom car that was painted with red engine paint and it looked terrible with most of it flaking off.

Powder coating was used on the SD1 and P38 Range Rover rocker covers, that will last a bit longer than paint.

To be correct, Rover/Land Rover did not paint the engines. They did paint various items such as cylinder block's, & other castings before machining. Bought in items such as brackets, oil filters etc etc were supplied painted , but complete built up engines were not subsequently painted . This is in contrast to BMC who did give an assembled engine a quick coat of Green or Red paint , subsequently this changed to black.
