The discussion on the weight of a gearbox reminded me to find out how much a 2.25 3mb petrol engine weighs. With manifolds fitted.

Reason I'm asking is I'm moving house, and I have one that I rebuilt, on an engine stand in the garage. The removal company want to know.

I remember us weighing one at work & 400 kg comes to mind, may be way out

Bit of Google'ing people are suggesting around 250 - 280Kg for a complete engine with flywheel and clutch. Pretty heavy things.

I've always worked on the basis of them being around 250kg built up.

Land Rover declare the 5MB 2.5 engine (ETC5900) fully dressed at 300kg (which is 1.5m carats if anybody cares...  :cool)

I'd say you are safe at saying it weighs around 250kg

And this time I know I'm using the right units.

Looking back I thing the weight I gave (400kg)  was with the gearbox-T/Box attached , fully dressed .

Ok thanks. It's for the tail lift on the truck apparently.

Only other option is to employ the method I used to get it here, in the back of my 109. I had to remove the rear hoop to get the height for the engine crane to lift it in.
