Changed the rear lights to the glass ones with new fittings and bolting light guards to keep hands off them along with swapping my reg plates for the classic ones I have received from Framptons and cut and drilled some plate ready for adding chargers for the phone etc

Not really a today project, but finished today. On the V8 I previously had air filters just shoved on the end of the elbows. I always wanted to use the SD1 airbox but it wouldn't fit. The one from a Range Rover or stage 1 looked a little iffy from a power perspective. I've been using a series of air temp sensors under the bonnet to try and work out what temp air the engine actually uses... the gist of it is anywhere between 20-30c higher than ambient temp depending on roadspeed vs engine speed. Anyway, I decided to make an airbox from sheetmetal with a view to making it as big as possible. It's fed by a 4" pipe that goes through the rad panel behind the right hand headlight. The airbox is sealed by the bonnet being closed.
The plan will be to remove the hose in the winter so it gets heated air and attach the pipe in summer so it gets cooler air.
Ive not tested it out on the road yet, so there's a very good chance I may have wasted a lot of time messing about. Either way I've had a laugh and learnt a few things.

Fitted the hood yesterday and took a drive the  supermarket, need to put some miles in, only 60 done so far. I have a knock seems to be coming from the steering wheel. I will put it on my list of things to do.

Fixed the awning ready for the rally, hopefully using it for shade rather than shelter from the rain. Used a thicker gauge tubing than manufactured with so hopefully it's a bit stronger.

1949KC

Loaded it on a transporter and said my final goodbye.

Paked the land rover ready for the rally tomorrow the nwent to get tha trailer from my friend Andy then to Paul Mercers to pick up the balance beam.  Land rover and trailer securely tucked up on the drive for the night

Got the right hump with my mirrors constantly migrating into a new position. So threw the clippy-crushy-bracket thing away and welded a bit of 3/4" roundbar to the top and then poked a hole in it and countersunk both sides. Yay!

Quote from: gcc130 on Aug 06, 2023, 06:08 PMIs that a Perentie you're parked next to? It looks huge!

It was. Huge. And a Perentie. Ex LR demo apparently. Bloke bought it from LR, I think. Took a few months to get it road-going. Loads of galvanised stuff as standard and a new hood. All parts have LR numbers but from across the range, I heard him say.
The star of the show as far as I was concerned was the 2B (4 vehicles in from the far right). Pristine? Nah it was better than that.
Not sure if I've got pics.

i read somewhere that the perentie land rover is about 2 inches wider than normal, I've yet to see one in person

Not all Perenties were made wider. Many were standard width cabs. The Perentie was in reality a vehicle programme rather than any specific model.

I think I heard him say that the chassis in this one is 6 inches wider and the body 4 inches wider. It might have been eight and six though.  ???  I wasn't taking notes. Or eavesdropping.  :cool I was feeding my wee dog at the time.

Started Patch up for the first time in about 4 years. Apart from needing the booster battery for the first time, it started on the button, and runs really nicely. Now to get all the other jobs done before it's back on the road.

Fitted the tub seat belt mounts and spare wheel.

started up the diesel engine I got from Birdsnest55 finally, sounds great. barely any smoke too, just running in a chassis at the moment, but I reckon if it was on the road, the smoke would be gone in 5 minutes. :RHD

Well done, should have charged more.
