Quote from: TimV on Sep 03, 2024, 12:58 PMI helped a friend fit a replacement bulkhead. Took a long time fettling, not sure how long it took to arrive. Quality was debatable, and there were brackets missing.

Before then I had my original bulkhead bulkhead repaired, it slotted straight back in.

I would not recommend replacing the bulkhead, plus you are losing a major part of the car.

Thanks for the feedback. Originally I was planning to rebuild mine, I do plenty of welding for work so not phased by it... That said I have some time constraints and its plenty rotten. Its not been messed about with and is still in original paint, but the bottom 4" door posts, all the lower panels and around pedal boxes, the upper passenger footwell area, the tubes for door restraints are all holed. Then the inner lip around the vents is pinholed in places and the outer corners below the screen hinges are very thin with a couple of pin holes.

With it being straight and unrepaired, its doable, i'll just end up sinking a huge amount of hours in, and with 2 kids under 3, and a old ruin of a small holding we've just bought, i'm looking to see where I can make the best savings of time and improve the end result. Would love to get it on the road properly whilst my little lad is still a little lad! Every time we run it in its current state round the croft he never wants to get out of it.

Quote from: Kevlar on Sep 03, 2024, 07:46 PMIf you don't fancy the risk and expense of buying a replacement, Rob Owen will supply excellent quality individual panels for you to make your own repairs, including the inner/outer vent surround, internal strengthening pieces and dashboard. I've gone down this route with very satisfactory results. From memory, the lead time was about 8 weeks.

I used to get parts from Tony Wood at The Welding Wood but, the last time I checked, he was no longer trading.

Thanks, good to know its not just a full bulkhead option from Rob Owen

Every bulkhead I've seen from Pegasus (not a Shielder galvanised jobbie) has been exemplary to the point of being nigh on perfect. That said, I think we need to bottom out the rumour mill and as they advertise in B2L, try to establish what is really going on and what the relationship now is with Shielder and what that means for us as buyers. That's going to have to be one of us picking up the phone or emailing Debbie to get the detail and then independently verify what we are told. That probably means one of the Board doing this, so either I will do it or Andy as our Advertising Manager.

It seems as though the actual product is spot on, but the process and delivery is still a big issue. I agree - nobody should be having to pay full whack at point of order. A deposit on a credit card fine, but as Alan Driver suggests, we should not be financing each build.

Rob Owen is good. The quality looks great, but he is not perfect. I ordered a 1969 spec bulkhead off him for a rebuild during lockdown and it had some glaring errors. Had it been a proper restoration as opposed to a weekend toy plaything I would have sent it back. I also know of one other S2C member locally who has had significant issues with a Rob Owen bulkhead.

Would be interested to hear the results. In terms of waiting for it to arrive, times on my side as the workshop wont be ready for another 4 months anyway. I'd be happy to place an order as a guinea pig for the S2C if the qualities good and its protected on credit card. If it turns up, win win, if not then credit card will return the funds.

Maybe source a better one to repair on eBay or the like.
If you're good at welding it's probably easier to bite the bullet and refurbish one than having to wait a long time or ending up with an inferior part.
That said, I have only read good about Owen and it seems he's going to deliver and also mend and give support if necessary.
What about having yours professionally rebuilt - if you are willing to dish out for a new one...?
