I made myself a nice little ali steering box guard from the leftovers and scrap from the mudguards.

I got a second coat of undercoat on the n/s front wing panel yesterday and a first undercoat on the front of the rad panel. I was very pleased with the brushing out first technique followed by rolling out with a small foam roller. At least with the undercoat it was equivalent to spraying in its dried appearance.

Still looking for an o/s front panel if someone has one available.  I'm quite proficient with a hammer and dolly so I don't need one pristine.

Dog walking duties then collected this. It's a genuine Land Rover part ETC5347 taken off a knackered (scrap) 5mb 2.3 litre diesel. There's a number ERR3347 on it but that must be the casting number as nothing comes up on an internet search. An ERR3340 filter fits as I tried one. The adapter is identical to the genuine one on my 2.5 petrol engine. At present the adapter is sitting in a container of brake/clutch cleaner. I have the fixing bolts for it too. The oil pressure switch for this is PRC6387.
Interesting that Britpart versions are about £340.00 or so at Paddock.

Nice! I take it there's something fruity under the bonnet with that exhaust?

Put a new seal between the elbow and the carb, it's only been a year and a half since the last one but it keeps popping off every time we go out. Tried different clips at different tensions but couldn't get it to stay.
Fingers crossed this'll fix it for good.
Also booked the mystery machine in at devon4x4 so they can look at the gearbox.
I assume it's not supposed to scream like a banshee.

I flatted the second coat of undercoat on my n/s wing front replacement and brushed and rolled a first coat of topcoat. I flatted the rad panel outer face and am aiming to get a second coat of undercoat on it tomorrow. Had an internal debate over the purchase of a pair of used s2 wings from Ebay to get an o/s front panel and decided to wait. If anyone sees one at Newbury and would be willing to post it to York for me I'd appreciate it.

It could be that the hose connecting the carburettor to the elbow is forcing the elbow off the rubber seal. When I replaced my hose recently it took some time to get the hose in the right position as it kept forcing the elbow off of the rubber seal. Try pushing the hose further on to the elbow.

I tried loosening the cross head screws that hold the Series 3 dashboard. They're awkward because of the close proximity of the windscreen but I used a 1/4 inch drive ratchet with the screwdriver attachment. All but one loosened and that was the one by the windscreen divider. It looked an oddball compared to the others and I didn't have a big enough crosshead bit but a small standard straight bit soon had it loosened.
This is ahead of the dashboard top swap which will be done sometime. I hope to get at the speedometer with the dash top off to sort out the non functioning light and swap the voltage stabiliser.

The post #53 about the carburettor elbow rubber seal popping off should read.

(Thursday) Been losing drive as the high-low selector self disengages. I removed and cleaned the hi-lo selector rod detent - it wasn't screwed in fully as the thread seems tight and all seems well so far.
Went out for a 'super-moon' run!

A bit of a varied day today, I didn't do the painting on the rad panel I had anticipated and instead put bitumen sound deadening on the inside of the transmission tunnel and neoprene tape at the edges before fitting it and the driver's floor. I had wire wheeled the steering wheel hub and etch primed it on Sunday, as well as removing and dismantling the main gear lever prior to cleaning its components and etch priming the lever bracket. I got a few coats of Simoniz satin black on both today and reassembled and refitted the gear lever ahead of the tunnel.

I wasn't expecting the size of spring to come out from under the gear lever. I chuckled. It was like one of those snake-in-a-tin tricks.

For some screwball reason I got it into what passes for my brain that the 4wd wasn't working but the "jack the front wheel up" test proved otherwise.
I've ordered a stubby screwdriver kit from my nearby Screwfix so I can get at the screws close to the windscreen. It'll be there tomorrow (Sunday). Good service I say.
OT but also fixed my ancient laser disc player.

A few evenings and today spent sanding, rust treating and priming/painting. I've done the handbrake lever and mechanism in gloss black, the transmission cover to bulkhead is in primer (I've rubbed it down and given it another coat since I took the pics), the transmission tunnel is just sanded at the minute whilst I decide what to fill the pins holes with or whether to source a better one. I need to source the cover plate where the transfer lever goes as that's missing. The crusty headlight mounting rings have cleaned up ok and are in primer ready to be painted black soon. The stainless outer rings have cleaned up but aren't perfect, especially on the inside.
