What have you done with your Series 2 Land Rover today ?

I got a first topcoat on the transmission tunnel and the n/s steering column blanking plate and a second top coat on the front diff casing. For those with a penchant for foul smelling things, this paint I got from a local hardware shop is absolutely vile. I mean like ten times worse than EP90 and then some. Thankfully only when wet!  :confused

Not my LR exactly ( My Rover P6) but arrived back from a weekend in the Netherlands visiting the Dutch Land Rover Register Autumn meet at Castricum. Weather was excellent as was the company. I have been visiting since the club was formed . Very nice Diesel ex Dutch military Half Ton next to my P6

They are Ebay specials but have lasted very well and the beam pattern is great. They are CE marked (for what that's worth) and were a very easy fit if your buckets are in decent shape.

Blown the budget and ordered a NOS Series 3 dash top from Blanchard's. The ones I've seen being offered on eBay look decidedly bent, rusty and tatty and I can't find a decent used one at a sensible price.

I flatted the first topcoat on my 88's transmission tunnel and sanded the new-to-me n/s S2 front indicator panel prior to undercoat. The two oxide primer coats on my rad panel have hardened nicely to sand to a flat finish. I'll be experimenting with foam rollers for the undercoat.

Picked him up from customs and ready to start the process of registration over next few weeks. Ideally on the road by end of October.

Would appreciate some advice / guidance on steering .. it's very vague, and it's either:

1) Me not being used to it, and having power steering do all the work (likely)
2) Need of an overhaul of track rod ends / bushes / steering box.

Any ideas? He's with the import company at the moment so I can't go and check right now but anything I should be looking out for, or it's just  matter of getting used to a 62 year old Landrover?

When you get it, have someone waggle the steering wheel while you check everything from the steering box, via the relay, to the trackrod ends.

Eliminate any slack in any of those components and if it is still vague, suspect a stiff relay.

Also check tracking once play has been sorted. Toe out can cause very vague and uncertain steering even if the rest is OK!

There's a massive heavy steel toolbox in the back with tools unlikely to be used out and about. I replaced it with a lightweight placcy one with just the necessary tools needed.
It's unlikely that I'd need an oil filter removal tool or a hub nut box spanner where I go.

when we sold our 130, we finally removed the toolbox from the back, around 17 years worth of tools and bits in there, used it maybe 5 times in that time, took 2 of us to drag it out :RHD

I've left the oil filter removal tool in the Land Rover as I suspect the spin on filter conversion I want to buy will have a filter attached and I don't want to bring the filter home.
