Try soaking the shoes in a bucket of Daz, Omo or Surf overnight, Then dry next to the fire. If the linings are worn down not worth the effort.

Not much, sadly my dog isn't well, but whilst he was napping I just went to sit in the 88 for a few mins to think about what to do next on the list of things that need a fettle. Funny sort of therapy these old cars.

Couldn't agree more.

I hope the dog gets better. :cheers

Is that a VW-logo on the steering wheel? But most importantly, like Exile wrote, best wishes for the dog!

Thanks for the kind wishes.

Good eyes, yeah, it's a Wolfsburg horn, the only one I could find that would fit the Petri Wheel, common in 356s and karman cabriolets, it was the closest looking to an original wheel whilst being 16 rather than 17".
I was going to paint the logo out, but as a VW nut when I was a teenager, it somehow feels more fun to leave it for now.

Maybe change the screen to black and white to keep it in period....

Not a whole lot.....on close inspection it would appear I am missing a few vital components to make the engine operational......🤔

Let me know if you need parts - I might be able to help. If you are based in Wicklow, I might be tempted to deliver - I haven't been home for a few years...

I received a new car battery for the rebuild in the post this morning and after wiring up the dashboard I hooked it up and turned on the ignition key. No smoke and all the expected lights on the dash, so all in all felt pretty good.

Then a tentative push of the starter button and the engine turned over. Very satisfying. Got a few more parts arriving in the next couple of days which should see the throttle linkages all complete and I'm thinking I can actually try starting the engine by the weekend...

The cataract operation I thought I was getting today was just an assessment and consultation with the surgeon. Now on the waiting list it's possible I could have the op before Christmas.
The eye drops I was given precluded any driving for a couple of hours (I walked to and from the hospital) so I gave the filler cap a coat of aluminium paint and replaced the bottom wire clip on the carburettor elbow to carburettor with a Jubilee clip. This was done up extremely tight with a two handed grip on the Easydriver.

Put steering box back together mounted it on Lottie and bolted up all the bracketry. Steering wheel back on - very satisfying.
When I got home I was asked "did the wheels both turn in the same direction?"

I like a challenge and an opportunity to learn. I'll see what I can do to bring this back into a useable state.

Still at home on pooch-watch, so found a job I could do on the living room floor;
I've always been a bit miffed by the Britpart seats, the foam is too soft for my mass, so I decided to buy some more dense foam so that I don't get that literal sinking feeling whilst driving. I dismantled the seat and was surprised at just how rough the foam shaping was on the Britpart peice.
I gave GB foam an accurate set of dims and they cut and nicely radiused a bit of firm foam for me. Nice inexpensive fix.
