Hello all! I am pleased to be able to join your ranks, thank you all for that.
Now for the Questions.
I have a newly acquired series 2A DIESEL. It's a 109 utility, Chassis# 27802090c, the suffix identifies it as 1966-67 year of production apparently. The engine # is 27135321G, 3 bearing,2286cc. Would that be a Positive to Earth or Negative to earth electrical system? There is no way if telling from what remains of the battery connections. That's it for now, Thanx.

Richard

G'day mate! Welcome to the forum. Congratulations on your purchase. I have a 1964 Series 2a 109, originally with positive earth. But someone on here will undoubtedly be able to tell you when Land Rover switched from positive to negative earth. And when I say "when" I mean year, month, day and probably the exact hour and minute the switch took place :cool

Welcome!
Negative earth on civilian vehicles was brought in on Suffix D chassis numbers which was in 1967. As yours is a CKD vehicle, I assume its the same?

Welcome Alfoz!

It's a huge shame that the factory stopped keeping records of CKD trucks - around 800 LRs before yours was built in fact, in the middle of December 1964. The engine would seem to date it to mid to late 1966 if that's any help, which fits with the C suffix and (originally) positive earth.

Got a pic? Otherwise would be good to know the colour.

Cheers

Thanks for helping me solve the puzzle. working on pictures, 2 hours later. The color is an Ochry grey, you can see bare aluminum through the paint. The paint is in poor condition, Shade cloth is to protect the old girl from the sun.

CDK, Completely Knocked Down. I have got to ask. please explain?

They were sent out from the UK in kit form and assembled locally. Often this was a tax breaker as they had to also have a significant amount of locally supplied parts (most commonly - brake drums, glass, seats, wheels and so on).

You have found a good forum. Welcome.
Sunshade.....all we are getting is rain down in Murwillumbah.
Do you have this plate anywhere?
Or a Pressed Metal corp one?
Two auxiliary power sockets are on the dash panel. One red and one black. If you remove the Panel and look behind at the sockets, if an earth wire goes to the black socket, Neg earth. If an earth wire goes to the red one, positive earth.
Also, the amp meter needle direction is a good indication when the battery is fixed and the ignition is turned on.

well the gauge are the positive earth type anyway ???

fuel and amps have the earlier thin arrow, after negative earth I'm sure the amps gauge went away as well

whitehillbilly G'day Cobber, I'll have a bow peep after. Thanx.
I found out the only thing you have to do to swap to negative earth is to polarize the generator, you're supposed to do that when you fit a new battery apparently. Who knew?
I was searching wiring schematics for differences, pos earth and neg earth and they are the same, save the battery connection.

Earth wire goes to the red one, so it's positive earth.  :Emma
No plate to help with who assembled it.
I am still working toward blowing smoke for the first time; probably should get a muffler first. lol
