Morning folk,

the paint has dried and hardened on my 88's radiator panel so I'm prepared to fit the bonnet resting strip. I have no original to use as a pattern,  so how far beyond the final rivet did the strip originally extend?

don't know exact measurements, but it went beyond the panel and some got stuck between the panel and the wings, when fitted

I have about 1 inch of material trapped between the panel and the wing.

Fit the strip central to the panel and don't trim it to length until you fit the wings. I think the strip on my one was the right length so you may find it fits fine as it is.

I can't see much point in extending the strip beyond the wing-top, as the bonnet will not rest on it further than that.

If your bonnet fitment is good, the bonnet will hold the strip in place beyond the last rivet.

If not, maybe cut it shorter, as it isn't doing anything.

If it isn't trapped between the wing and the panel it is loose so will flap around when the bonnet is open unless you glue it into place.

I just replicated what was there from the factory to be honest.

Hi

Its best to tuck it into the wing by about 1/2 an inch on each side or as stated above it just flops around and you have to glue it down.

20 years ago the new piece came about 12-14 inches extra, that extra piece was used between the bottom of the wings and the round (or straight depending on the year) vanity piece that went between the bumper and the front  panel.
