What have you done with your Series 2 today ?

A couple of hours of tinkering today and got some paint on the transfer case selector shaft cover and gear lever. The gear lever has weld atop the ball so I assume it was repaired or done as a preventative measure at some point. I also removed and cleaned up the clutch slave push rod and clevis pin. Whilst doing that I noticed that there was a bolt through the clutch cross shaft instead of a locating pin which is shown in the parts book. It was loose so I gave it a turn and the head came off in my fingers.

I turned the bottom head underneath and managed to wind the rest of the bolt out before that fell in half, giving me 3 bits. I guess a previous owner didn't want to wait for a pin or order one so used the bolt as a bodge  

It looks to me like there's a bolt in the outer sleeve further inwards towards the gearbox so that could be fun.

I've had a stinker of a cold, so progress has been slow, but I finally finished replacing the speedo cable today.

Didn't feel like taking it out, so to test it, took a rear wheel off, and with the axle on a stand and big wedges under the other wheels, put it in gear. Rock steady - well pleased.

I also noted that in neutral, the rear drum was spinning slowly - it's cold so the drag through the transmission must have been great.

Your dog has excellent taste. Like mine a Land Rover canine.
Apart from when he was exported from Wales in 2020 as a puppy in some anonymous thingy the only vehicle he's ever been in is his Series 3 hard top SWB which he thoroughly enjoys.

Removed the crank today. Some of you may recall the puzzled thread I started over why the engine locked.
It was the crank which had decided to no longer turn. Having removed it I can't see any reason why it shouldn't. Still puzzled but all I can do is carefully build it back up !

A little while ago I'd just got the clamp off and was carrying it into the garage when a near neighbour said that looks heavy. I told her its weight and she asked how I managed to carry it. I was already carrying it so  I replied "Like this!"
