A 1961 "Defender" with "THIS IS ONE OF THE FIRST SERIES 2A TO BE BUILT AND HAS THE FACTORY 3.5 V8 PETROL ENGINE"

Yes it may well be an early 2A, but factory V8 probably at least 5 years before Rover even got their hands on the V8...

If you think that's odd or funny... this was the description of one being sold here in the States a few months ago.

Quote1965 SIIa 88 2.8TDI Lady/Man Killer Weapon of Desire Lustful Beast

The time has come to sell my hugely desirable fertility boosting unisex magnate - 1965 Land Rover series 2A 2.8tdi conversion. I had intended to take this to the wilds of Kenya on the trip of lifetime safari to see big game, but due to covid I have only managed to drive to Walmart, although there are some wildebeests there .... Like my ex wife. The main reason for the sale is that the council are making me pay for the repairs outside my house caused by the constant stream of dribble from the mouths of the lustful admirers of the Land Rover, this has caused serious erosion on the pavement and some localized flooding to the village. MAN-ufactured in 1965 in the Land Rover factory (shed) by a team of tweed wearing pipe smoking tea drinking mustachioed men and women folk, all done in black and white as it was back then. For Queen and country. Hazzzar. Built like a steak house, handles like a buffet cart, sitting on a formula 1 LAD-der chassis (contains abs8olutely no formula 1 at all in any) the engine is a marvel of modern-ish engineering, so much as look at the key and she fires up, purrs like a kitten and commands to be driven hard and thrown about the field ...that's what she said/I used to know a girl like that etc. It does puff a small amount of smoke out of the back end first thing in the morning ...but who doesn't. The paint is painty and like the paint of a vvvgreally old painted Land Rover and is blue. Blue paint. The roof is white. Off-white with a threat of cream, perhaps a light dusting of old English white. There's a little dent on the front left wing (UK) Fender (USA) caused by a lady hurling herself at me last week in an attempt to get my phone number, this happens quite often when you drive this ruggedly handsome mobile command unit, so just be aware. Men also try to wave me down on the regular, this truly is a universal/unisex vehicle.

Mpudi: So how did the land rover get up the tree?
Steyn: Do you know she has flowers on her panties?
Mpudi: So that's how it got up the tree.

Both are equally silly but at least the American advert is a deliberate attempt at humour rather than a deliberate attempt to con someone out of twice the going rate for a bitsa (maybe being generous at only twice)

What a delightful way to sell a S2a, even if it is a 2.8 l diesel conversion...

There's a smile a minute in sale listings, and whilst I kinda' get why we're not permitted comment - unless it's this week's DVLC transgression; this comes very earnest. Only are we missing a trick?

Land rovers, let's face are owned by a broad church. We really should permit ourselves a smidgen of mirth. I'm sure we've all seen the truly inspired stuff, I know I have.

Find an amusing or iffy eBay description, and your money is safe if you bet it's a LR. It's a trusim, we can dine-out on. Along with perhaps Beetles, Minis and Jap 4x4, our beloved marque is tops for this kind of thing.

Many are simply hilarious.

They are not wolf rims either.

I saw a 90 yesterday, YOD952

The question arises, late vehicle with cherished plate or late vehicle running early id.

Dvla says this particular 90 is 1958!

I think it's a fair listing, not one for outrage?  Few would be fooled. The seller troubles to place the right flags. You'd not need to be aware of the precise detail to a Series LR to be on alert. I like it, loud and very clear, the seller gives proper and fair-warning. Many don't.

Anyone ready with actual money, can either..  see what it is - or can't, and will want it anyway.

Nah, my current favs are the 'drug-deal' chic, gloss-black urban-tat spattered 110s. And the 'Fast-Show' copies. Some, hideous to the point of having me fall about.

I wonder how ev conversions like this retain that MOT and Tax exemption that this one claims to have. Surely not enough points for historic status? Mind you the colour would put me off!

Tax exemption I can understand as not only is it historic but it's electric, I believe electric cars still get free road tax?

It should be MOT exempt though as it's extensively modified. You could probably drive it around for years with no MOT and no one would ask but as soon as you need to make an insurance claim, it would be a very easy get out for the insurance company.

No vehicle is tax exempt. Zero tax rated vehicles including historic still have to be taxed but it's free.
Vehicles in the Historic taxation class are exempt from MOT's. Electric vehicles will be taxed from either 1/4/24 or 25, not sure the exact date or whether it's retrospective.
