Romany Rose - Brad
« on: November 17, 2020, 11:09:35 PM »

Whenever I go into my archives of scrap I often think back to Romany Rose - Brad.  I hope I’ve got that right.  He must have had mountains of stuff.  If you wanted it he was boils to have it just needed to go trawling.

Hi,

He should have worn a white hat.  (Do I need to explain that?)

On the subject of ‘archives of scrap’, have others made any arrangements for their own hoards in the event of their not being there.
I was once involved in tidying up for a landlord whose tenant had just died. Near some outbuildings was the remains of a bonfire, containing barely identifiable remains of car and tractor parts. Glass Lucas indicator lenses shattered in the heat will always be the memory of that day.
My own wife admits that if I dropped dead tomorrow, she wouldn’t know whether to call the scrappy, or St Fagans (folk museum, near Cardiff.)

My wife has asked me to price everything up so she knows how much to sell it for.

If she sells everything for what I’ve told her I paid we will be well out of pocket !!!’

A good point

Brad's stash disappeared quite quickly, so I believe, at much less than market value
It appeared later, in drips and drabs - at market value. So i believe

Not sure I have seen any of his vehicles on the market, but they must have gone somewhere!

Brad was always a great laugh when I had seen him at Leafers - usually around the autojumble!

I had just this conversation with my 23 year old son only a couple of weeks ago.

He has yet to develop a real practical streak (I live in hope!) so knows little of tools etc. but is thankfully starting to show an interest in his dads old cars.

He is pretty savvy though so I know he would be able to value most things with the help of the internet.

I've just told him that if/when anything happens to me and I'm still a hoarder, not to throw anything away until he has found out a) what it is and b) what it's worth!

I fully expect that little job to take him at least a year of his time!

Sadly, he will probably just sell the cars and skip the rest! :'( :shakeinghead

Edited to say, fortunately, I will no longer care!!

My son loves watching Rust Valley and now he has a field to put things in I guess that is where the GM pickup and the 88 will end up

I used to spend a lot of time worrying about this.

Until I realised I would be dead and possibly have other things to worry about!

(Ought to say though, that I have younger friends who know about my "scrap", so maybe they'll get their hands on it before my son gets rid of it. :-X)
