Hi,

Is this a suitable time to remind those "who have served their country about the Far Eastern method of employing toilet paper?

It involves folding a single sheet of paper twice (to give you a quarter size thingy, the tearing the relative corner off. When you unfold the sheet, you will fond a hole in the middle of now full size sheet. If I go any further, I reckon I will be banned.
 
My mate in Malaya "lived out" with a local girl. Interesting story! Remind me to tell you when I don't have to write anything down.

Whatever, she commented that the Orientals wash afterwards, while us Europeans "just spread it around till it dries".

I'll get my coat.

PS. She was a nice girl, despite her circumstances. She and Barbara entertained each other to each other's cooking styles.

I am old enough to remember when my Welsh Grannie used newspaper in the bog at  the far end of the garden.

Having recently paid Dyno Rod to unblock the main drain I don't think welsh drains are what they used to be

When I was in Oman in the 70's (where my daily driver was a 109 Series II - there you go Wittsend ) there was, one year, a total lack of toilet paper for a month or so, and Airmail Edition copies of The Daily Telegraph saved the day. This only affected the ex-pats as the locals used smooth stones - alfresco. This traditional method proved disastrous when the first ever public toilet blocks with flushing WC's came into use (in Muttrah port) - the concrete floors had to be broken up and the drains relaid.

Next we'll see the hairdressers, beauty parlours, eyebrow studios and nail boutiques closing, I tell you it's going to get ugly out there.

Seems to have gone past just panic buying. A friend was looking for baby milk formula for his 6 month old son this morning. None within a 20 mile radius of his house... He found somebody flogging it on eBay at 6 x the price he usually buys it in Tesco. It now appears to have descended into blatant profiteering. At this rate, we'll have to bring back rationing!

I then found a queue at my local Esso garage. When I asked one person why they were queuing they said that they were doing it in case fuel supplies ran low. I pointed out that as we can't go anywhere and nothing is open, surely that's a bit pointless? Not fair on us 2/1/4 petrol owners whose vehicles have an everlasting thirst and need somewhat more regular visits to our friends at Esso than others!
