Hi Manxcat,

Is there a trade agreement on "Weather"?

Am I right in believing the IOM is independent? Were/are they part of the EU? Is it a god place to buy a new car?

First job tomorrow, heading out into the Forest to help recover a neighbours japanese 4x4. Road biased tyres unable to cope with ice... after an hour of wheels slipping he gave up and walked home :-(

....he had tried to help a normal car, stuck on ice in a Forestry car-park and has ended up stuck himself.

I suspect this is all about tyres...

Tell him he can save himself some long walks home.  Just throw a couple strips of household carpet in back of his 4x4.  And add a bag of kitty litter if he's feeling generous.  Place the carpet strips in front of his spinning tires and let them pull the carpet in.  He'll have amazing traction for 3 feet, then repeat.  They'll dry quickly too, and they weigh nothing.

... and to top this tip off!

Tie a length of light rope to the carpet strips and on to the handles on the rear cross member (that's what they are for).

Then when you get grip and start moving again you don't have to get out straight away to recover the strips. You can drag them behind until it's safe to stop.

Where does the kitty litter come in ?
Ps I use it for oil spills in the garage.

Kitty litter = grit

Problem is there's kitty litter and there's kitty litter.

The stuff like grit is IIRC a clay/rock type product that's mined and not supposed to be environmentally friendly  :shakeinghead

We use a wood chip kitty litter, which I re-cycle round the garden as a mulch.
Particularly good on rhubarb - but I expect most prefer custard  :tiphat

.... but not much good as grit on ice.
