but really. Have people forgotten how to drive, or just not learned properly?

I live up a narrow lane, often used as a shortcut by some, When I have met another car on some occasions the driver has wound down the window and shouted "I do not know how to reverse" and sat there :shakeinghead
(I make no comment on gender)
Should this skill be a meaningful section on a driving test :-\

Every area has a few like this, our local one has an eastern european title Count Something or other and simply refuses to reverse even if faced with multiple car and a passing spot a few yards behind him. A friend of mine has turned off his engine and got the newspaper out to read until the he finally relented and backed up.

He also thinks it okay to drive fast and not slow down for corners around the local narrow lanes as long as you toot your horn before hand.

^^^^ My father in law went one better. Already more than half-way across the bridge at the Falls of Dochart when a coach drove onto the bridge, expecting him to reverse he first sat there a while, then got out, locked the car and started walking back into Killin. The coach-driver was left persuading the line of traffic behind him to back up so he could get off the bridge. Moral. Don't annoy Pensioners, they have all day to potter about and nowhere in particular to go. ( Brian is also both stubborn and notoriously poor at reversing.)

We too have snow. Enough to be scenic, not enough to be a nuisance.

Last time i was there it was on my bicycle, we have normally a few days a little snow that won’t reach the ground.

Hi,

Early December, 1967, the South Coast was cut off for three days. Croydon to Eastbourne General Hospital,(Maternity Ward) and return. Every evening, but with dispensation to arrive late.

I'm guessing about 50 miles each way. Roads to myself ... apart from the "*****" in the Ford 5cwt van. Black ice, so he was travelling slowly. I beat my way over the frozen slush in the middle of the road, so I could overtake him. As I pulled alongside him, he looked at me ... and accelerated.  :agh

Probably doing a bit over 40mph, which was the limit of my comfort zone with zero grip.

I eased off a smidgen, fought my way back through the frozen slush, and settled in behind him for a few miles, until he pulled off.
